Looking at the route of the old Cockermouth to Keswick Railway on an OS Explorer map, there's a curious permissive path shown between Crosthwaite Road (NY 263 243) and a point on the A66 (NY 252 242) on the west side of the town. It doesn't appear to go anywhere or connect to anything and so, finding myself nearby, I went to investigate. It turned out to be an interesting contrast to the more popular line running east towards Threlkeld.
